Spanish Armada will go all the way...

Spain is the perennial under-achievers in the world of Football. They have never won the Football World cup. With the Euro 2008 being their biggest achievement, the genre of skillful players in their ranks, the confidence in the team, Spain has every reason to believe they can go all the way in FIFA World Cup 2010.

Euro 2008 Champions - Spain

Spain has not missed World cup finals since they failed to qualify for 1974 WC in Germany. Spain has not bettered their quarter-final appearance in the 1950 WC in Brazil until now and this will be their best chance to re-write the record books.

Spain has so much talent in abundance that selecting the playing eleven will be a challenge in itself for Coach Vicente del Bosque, who took over the reins from Euro 2008 winning coach Luis Aragones.

The quality of the Spanish players is arguably the best in the world. Midfield is marshaled by precision passer Xavi, mercurial Gunner Fabregas, Real Madrid’s Xabi and Andres Iniesta from Barcelona make the best combination. With two of the best goal scorers in Torres and David Villa will make a potent attack, opposition is sure to run for their money. Spanish defense revolves around Carlos Puyol and Sergio Ramos with Casillas in the goal line looks a formidable defense.

David Villa and Torres in celebration mode

Spain will face Switzerland, Chile and Honduras in the group stage. Making it to the last 16 stages will be easier, but they will have to meet Ivory Coast, Portugal or Brazil in the knock-outs. With pre-tournament favorites tag, Spain will have the pressure but being a seasoned side they will come into their own as the tournament progresses.

As the world lives on hope, I have full hopes on Spain that they will write the history books as the 2010 FIFA Football World Cup Champions.
